Motivation: The BEA recently posted initial results of the comprehensive revisions for personal income at the state and local geo levels (in September and December, respectively), in connection with the five-year comprehensive update to NIPA. These revisions have been incorporated into our personal income estimates, a driver of our disposable personal income estimates.
Response: We have incorporated these revisions into our quarterly disposable personal income estimates from 2001; history from 1969 to 2000 is unrevised. Because the BEA's initial release is revised only for years 2001 to 2017, values before 2001 are potentially inconsistent; this will be resolved in early 2019 when it disseminates revisions for the remaining years.
