By Edward Chaplin
Summary
March 2019 -- Data Buffet now carries intercensal population estimates by sex and five-year age bracket for the states of Malaysia (1,056 new annual series from 1970).
Detail

Dataset properties:

  • Sexes: Both sexes, males, females
  • Age brackets: 0 to 4, ..., 85 years and older
  • Measurement: Thousands of persons (Ths. #)
  • Adjustment: Not applicable
  • Geo coverage: Country and all 16 states
  • Do all concept-geo pairs exist? No
  • Native frequency: Annual
  • Start dates: 1970, 1980, 1991 or 2010
  • Gaps: No

The series reside in the historical catalog (Malaysia » Demographics » Population » By age » Annual - Intercensal estimates) and include, for example:

  • VSQPOPETTUA.IMYS       = Vital statistics: Intercensus population estimates - Both sexes - All ages, (Ths. #)
  • VSQPOPEM3034UA.IMYS_JO = Males - Ages 30 to 34 - for Johor
  • VSQPOPEF7074UA.IMYS_TE = Females - Ages 70 to 74 - for Terengganu

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on Databuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

Please be aware that

Malaysia has 16 first-level administrative divisions: 13 states (negeri) and three federal territories (wilayah persekutuan or "W.P."). The states were either created in 1957 or joined in 1963, and the federal territories were created in 1974, 1984 and 2001.
