Data Change: Estonia - Construction volume index - Rebased to 2015
Monday, 31 Dec 2018 07:56 ET
By Mike Mercurio
Summary
December 2018 -- For the Construction Volume Index for Estonia, concurrent with dissemination of results for 2018Q3, the source has advanced the base year from 2010 to 2015 (six quarterly series 2001 to 2018, replaced from 2001).
Detail
In response, we have:
  1. Archived the predecessors (2010=100 and related moving-base indexes, 2001Q1 to 2018Q3) by renaming with an "_10" specifier, marking the metadata as "discontinued", and segregating in the catalog.
  2. Created one-for-one replacements (2015=100).
  3. Assigned standardized mnemonics to the replacements.
  4. Refurbished the unit-descriptor metadata.

Active dataset properties:

  • Source tables: EH0014, EH0015, EH0016 (fixed base, previous period, CPPY)
  • Classification: EMTAK 2008 (based on NACE Rev. 2)
  • Measurements:
    • Fixed-base index relative to 2015 (Index 2015=100)
    • Moving-base index relative to previous period (Index prv. qt.=100)
    • Moving-base index relative to corresponding period of previous year (Index CPPY=100)
  • Adjustment: Working day adjusted and seasonally adjusted (WDASA)
  • Native frequency: Quarterly
  • Start date: As early as 2001Q1 (unchanged)
  • Subject to revisions: Yes

The series reside in the historical catalog (Estonia » Real Estate » Construction » Volume index) and include, for example:

  • HSIVOLT_10Q.IEST  = [DISCONTINUED] Construction volume index: Estonia and foreign countries, (Index 2010=100, NSA)
  • HSIVOLEY_10Q.IEST = [DISCONTINUED] Construction volume index: Estonia, (Index CPPY=100, NSA)
  • IPJCNDCQ.IEST     = Construction volume index: In Estonia, (Index 2015=100, WDASA)
  • IPJCNTQCQ.IEST    = In Estonia and foreign countries, (Index prv. qt.=100, WDASA)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

Please be aware that

An industrial production index is computed as a volume index (i.e., deflated, or adjusted for price changes). Consequently, we use the concept code structure for IPI, with an industry specifier for construction.

We have replaced both the fixed-base indexes and the corresponding moving-base indexes. Although there is no mathematical reason that the latter curves would shift, revisions may potentially occur for other reasons: a five-year rebasing is often associated with a reweighting or the integration of corrections.
