Motivation: Our national source for Thailand, the Bank of Thailand, reports a monthly house price index, but with an idiosyncratic base period (January 2009=100), only in nominal terms, and with limited history (from March 2008).
Response: For analytical convenience and international consistency, we compute a nominal house price index for Thailand at a standard frequency (quarterly), with a standard base period (2010=100), and with extended history (17 additional years). Moreover, we compute a constant-price version (a.k.a. real, deflated, volume index).
Properties:
- Measurement: Value and volume indexes with fixed base period 2010=100
- Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted (SA)
- Periodicity: Quarterly
- Start date: 1991Q1
- Geo coverage: National
The series appear in the historical catalog (Thailand » Real Estate » Residential » Moody's Analytics Estimated) and are:
- RHPIQ.ITHA = Nominal house price index, (Index 2010=100, SA)
- RHPI$Q.ITHA = Real house price index, (Vol. Index 2010=100, SA)
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
Method: See background in Mnemonic 411.
