Data Change: Chile - CPI - Rebased to 2018
Wednesday, 13 Feb 2019 07:25 ET
By Edward Chaplin
Summary
February 2019 -- For the detailed consumer price index for Chile, concurrent with dissemination of results for January, the source has advanced the base period from 2013 to 2018 (13 monthly series 2013 to 2018, replaced from 2018). We have synchronized our SA supplement.
Detail

In response, we have:

  1. Archived the predecessors (2013=100, January 2013 to December 2018) by renaming with an "_13" specifier, marking metadata as "discontinued", and segregating in the catalog.
  2. Created one-for-one replacements (2018=100) from January 2018 with standardized mnemonics.
  3. Extended the general index.
  4. Updated our seasonally adjusted supplement to the general index.

Dataset properties:

  • Classification: Clasificación del Consumo Individual por Finalidades (CCIF), the local adaptation of UN COICOP
  • Measurement: Fixed-based index relative to 2018 (Index 2018=100)
  • Adjustment: Not seasonally adjusted (NSA)
  • Native frequency: Monthly
  • Start dates:
    • Reported from January 2018
    • General index extended to March 1928

The series reside in the historical catalog (Chile » Price » Consumer price index) and include, for example:

  • CPITT_13AM.ICHL = [DISCONTINUED] Consumer price index: General, (Index 2018=100, SA)
  • CPITTUM.ICHL    = General, (Index 2018=100, NSA)
  • CPICLFUM.ICHL   = Clothing and shoes [3]
  • CPIHTRUM.ICHL   = Restaurants and hotels [11]

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
