Data Change: Taiwan - Fertility rates - Redefined
Tuesday, 07 Mar 2017 19:11 ET
By Annie Kao, Jacky Cheung
January 2017 -- The source has changed the units and age brackets for annual general and age-specific fertility rates (11 annual series 1991-2014, replaced by nine from 1951).

The measurement units have changed from percentages (%) to ratios (0/00); the age brackets have changed from three groups to seven. In response, we have archived the predecessors (1991 to 2014) by marking the metadata and catalog as “discontinued." The replacements start at 1951.

The series reside in the historical catalog (Taiwan » Demographics »  Population » Summary) and include, for example:

  • VS%POP0014UA.ITWN = [DISCONTINUED] Age Specific Distribution - 0-14 Years, (%, NSA)
  • VS%REPOUA.ITWN    = [DISCONTINUED] Gross Reproduction Rate, (%, NSA)
  • VS%FRGUA.ITWN     = General fertility rate - Average births to women, (Ratio)
  • VS%FR1519UA.ITWN  = Age-specific fertility rate - Average births to women ages 15 to 19, (Ratio)

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
