TitleFAQ: U.S. Estimates - Which Median Existing Home Prices Don't Use NAR Data?
AuthorKarl Zandi
Question

Which of the Moody's Analytics estimates of median existing home prices for metro areas are not based on NAR data?

Answer

Moody's Analytics estimates quarterly median sales prices of existing single-family homes (concept code RHX1MEDQ) for the nation, states, counties, and 399 metropolitan areas and metro divisions.

Our principal data sources are the California Association of Realtors (CAR), the Florida Association of Realtors (FAR), the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) and the U.S. Census Bureau.

The NAR currently provides data for 161 metro areas.  Occasionally individual areas will drop off the list, and new areas may be added once a year.

Conversely, 234 estimated metro areas and divisions are not based on NAR data.  A list of these areas is attached to this article in Microsoft Excel format, current as of January 6, 2011.
