Data Change: France - Unemployment - Geo
Monday, 10 Feb 2020 09:08 ET
By Sebastiano Mastrodonato
Summary
February 2020 -- For ILO-definition unemployment for France, concurrent with dissemination of results for 2019Q3, the series has been redefined to be more geographically inclusive (one quarterly series 1975 to 2019, replaced by one from 1975).
Detail

The detailed unemployment indicators are reported for both "metropolitan France" (i.e., the mainland) and "France excluding Mayotte" (i.e., metropolitan France plus four of five overseas territories ("DOMs")). The preferred ILO-definition unemployment figure has been changed by INSEE from "metropolitan France" to the more inclusive "France excluding Mayotte".

In response we have:

  1. Discontinued the "metropolitan France" series.
  2. Standardized mnemonics of existing series.
  3. Transplanted the global concept alias LBU.IFRA.

Notable properties:

  • Start date: No change
  • Measurement: No change
  • Geographic scope: Added four of five DOMs

The series reside in the historical catalog:

  • France » Labor and Wages » Labor force status » Major series

and are:

  • LWQUNAQ.IFRA_MET = [DISCONTINUED] Labor: Unemployment - Both sexes, (Ths. # , SA) - for metropolitan France, 1975Q1 to 2019Q2
  • LWQUNAQ.IFRA_XMY = for France excl. Mayotte, from 1975Q1
