New Estimates: Ireland - NA Employment by Industry
Tuesday, 23 Apr 2013 11:41 ET
By Megan Perkinson
Summary
March 2013 -- To standardize national accounts employment by 21 NACE Rev. 2 industries for Ireland, Moody's Analytics has created quarterly estimates (22 new series, from 1998).
Detail

Motivation (fundamentals): The Central Statistics Office of Ireland reports quarterly employment from a labor force survey, but not as part of national accounts (NA).  Eurostat reports national accounts employment for Ireland, but with limited industry detail (11 broad aggregates), and with a lag.

Response (estimates): For international consistency, Moody's Analytics has computed a total and 21 detailed NACE Rev. 2 industries at a quarterly frequency.

Properties:

  • Measurement: Thousands of persons (Ths.) seasonally adjusted (SA)
  • History: Quarterly from as early as 1998Q1
  • Additivity: Total employment equals the sum of industries
  • Geo coverage: Nation

Our estimated dataset resides in the historical catalog (Ireland » National Accounts » Branch Accounts » Employment by industry) and includes, for example:

  • RENATOTQ.IIRL - Total (all-industries) employment
  • RENAMFQ.IIRL - Employment for manufacturing [10-33]
  • RNACNQ.IIRL - Employment for construction [41-43]

Method: Please see the background in Mnemonic 411.
