Data Change: Australia - Multifactor productivity - Rebased to FY 2017
Sunday, 16 Dec 2018 17:34 ET
By Jacky Cheung
Summary
December 2018 -- For the annual "estimates of industry multifactor productivity" for Australia, concurrent with dissemination of results for 2017, the source has advanced the index base year from FY 2016 to FY 2017 (72 annual series 1989 to 2016, replaced). This is an annual process.
Detail

In response, we have:

  1. Archived the predecessors (base year FY 2016, 1959 to 2018) by renaming with an "_16" specifier, marking metadata as "discontinued", and segregating in the catalog.
  2. Created one-for-one replacements (base year FY 2017) with an unchanged start date.

Active dataset properties:

  • Classification: ANZSIC.
  • Measurement: Fixed-base index relative to fiscal year 2017 (Index 2016-17=100)
  • Native frequency: Annual
  • Start dates: Between 1989 and 1994

The series reside in the historical catalog (Australia » Industry » Productivity » Multifactor | Labor | Capital) and the associated "discontinued" node. They include, for example:

  • ISIPROHWQAF_16UA.IAUS = [DISCONTINUED] Industry Productivity: Multifactor - Quality-adjusted hours worked basis - Agriculture; forestry; fishing [A], (Index 2015-16=100)
  • ISIPROHWQAFUA.IAUS    = Multifactor - Quality-adjusted hours worked basis - Agriculture; forestry; fishing [A], (Index 2016-17=100)
  • ISIPROHWMNUA.IAUS     = Hours worked basis  - Mining
  • ISIPROLBCNUA.IAUS     = Labor basis  - Construction (E)

The predecessors reside under the associated "discontinued" node (... » Industry » Productivity» Discontinued » FY 2016, etc.).

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provide a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

Please be aware that

In Australia, many currency-valued statistics use a fiscal year as the reference period. An Australian fiscal year ("financial year" or "FY") runs from 1 July to the next 30 June, and is designated by the calendar year of the second half of the period. It is styled by ABS as "July 2016 to June 2017" or "financial year 2016-17".
