Monday, 22 Jul 2019 16:57 ET
By Kelli Johnson
Summary
July 2019 -- Moody's Analytics now estimates gross value added by industry, at current and constant prices, for South Korea and its capital city (112 new quarterly series from 1960).
Detail

Motivation: Our two national sources for South Korea publish complementary but limited GVA data:

  • Bank of Korea, for 16 industry sections, quarterly, for the country
  • Statistics Korea, for 16 industry sections, annually, for Seoul City

Response: For international consistency, Moody's Analytics now estimates GVA, for 21 industries plus our three special industry aggregates, for the country and its capital city, at a quarterly frequency.

Properties

  • Industry classification:
    • KSIC Rev. 9, an adaptation of UN ISIC Rev. 4
    • 21 industry sections
    • Three A*3 aggregates
    • Three Moody's Analytics special industry aggregates (retail, warehouse-using, office-using)
    • All-industries total
  • Measurements: Millions of South Korean won at current prices (Mil. KRW) or constant year-2010 prices (Mil. Ch. 2010 KRW)
  • Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted at an annualized rate (SAAR)
  • Geo coverage: Country and Seoul City (national capital)
  • Native frequency: Quarterly
  • Start date:
    • National: 1960Q1
    • Subnational: 1985Q1

The series reside in the historical catalog (South Korea » National Accounts » by Value Add » prices » Moody's Analytics Estimated and include, for example:

  • RGDP$Q.IKOR       = Gross value added - Total, (Mil. Ch. 2010 KRW, SAAR)
  • RGDPCNQ.IKOR_SE   = Construction, (Mil. KRW, SAAR)
  • RGDPPRIQ.IKOR     = Primary industries
  • RGDPWAR$Q.IKOR_SE = Warehouse-using industries

Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.

Method: Please refer to the background documentation in Mnemonic 411.
