Geo coverage is the nation, six cities, all nine provinces, and two special areas. The series reside in the historical catalog (South Africa » Demographics » Components of Change » Births) and include, for example, the following (old » new). Please be aware that:
- In South Africa, not all birth registrations are collected promptly or consistently (hence the "current registration / late registration" distinction) and certain reported results are estimated or provisional. Time series VSQBTHETUM.IZAF is monthly, but reflects information available as of July of each year.
- We have created the geo codes IZAF_OU and IZAF_US ("foreign" and "unspecified") at the provincial geo level for additivity; results for these areas, plus results for the nine provinces, equal the national value (see related article).
- We have not renamed the parallel series at the municipality level (e.g., VSQLBTHCDUA.IZAF_WC012), because they are discontinued.
