Motivation: Our national source, Statistics Botswana, reports the detailed expenditure approach to GDP, at current and constant prices, quarterly, but only in not seasonally adjusted (NSA) terms.
Response: For analytical consistency we have created seasonally adjusted counterparts to the major items.
Properties
- Measurement: Millions of Botswana pula at current prices (Mil. BWP) or constant year-2006 prices (Mil. 2006 BWP)
- Adjustment: Seasonally adjusted annualized rate (SAAR)
- Native frequency: Quarterly
- Start date: 2004Q1
Supplemental series of this kind are marked with a secondary citation of "Moody's Analytics Adjusted", except for series that we aggregate, which are marked "Moody's Analytics Calculated". Expect our SA series to be revised with each update.
The series reside in the historical catalog (Botswana » National Accounts » by Expenditure » Constant prices | Current prices » Seasonally adjusted by Moody's Analytics) and include, for example:
- NALEGDPAQ.IBWA = National accounts: Expenditure approach - Total GDP, (Mil. BWP, SAAR)
- NALEGFCFAQ.IBWA = Gross fixed capital formation - Total, (Mil. BWP, SAAR)
- NACESDAQ.IBWA = Errors and omissions, (Mil. 2006 BWP, SAAR)
Method
- Adjust reported components individually, using the U.S. Census Bureau's X-13 ARIMA program.
- Compute as NSA identities: gross capital formation, trade balance.
- Compute as SAAR identities: gross capital formation, trade balance, errors and omissions.
