The classification is NAICS 2012. Figures are millions of U.S. dollars at current prices (Mil. USD) or year-2009 constant prices (Mil. 2009 USD). All series in this subset are annual, and run from 1952 to (at present) 2014.
The 522 new investment series reside in the historical catalog (United States » Industry » Industrial production and Capacity Utilization (FRB G.17) » NAICS 2012 » Annual » Capital Expenditure). There are six measures each for 87 individual industries; series include, for example:
- CECFRINVEMFUA.IUSA = Investment equipment - Manufacturing - All industries, (Mil. 2009 USD)
- CELFRINVE3111UA.IUSA = Investment equipment - Manufacturing - Animal food [3111], (Mil. USD)
- CECFRINVS3262UA.IUSA = Investment structures - Manufacturing - Rubber product [3262], (Mil. 2009 USD)
- CECFRSTKE3115UA.IUSA = Capital stock equipment - Manufacturing - Dairy product [3115], (Mil. 2009 USD)
We have also added or expanded subsets that include series such as the following. Figures are indexed to 2002 (Index 2002=100) or 2012, or are percent shares (%). Series may be seasonally adjusted (SA) or not (NSA). They start at 1972.
- XKWHMDUA.IUSA = Kilowatt hours: Durable manufacturing, (Index 2002=100)
- IPCXPMM.IUSA = Industrial production index: Chemicals except pharmaceuticals and medicines [3251 to 3253;3255 to 3259], (Index 2012=100, SA)
- XIP31192Q.IUSA = Industrial production index: Coffee and tea [31192], (Index 2012=100, NSA)
- IPRWNXFM.IUSA = Industrial production: Relative importance weights - Nonferrous except foundries [3313 to 3314], (%, SA)
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com, provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
About our extract:
- For these new series, the concept codes consistently contain the frequency character (M, Q or A). We have not renamed existing series because that would disrupt legacy retrievals.
- For the industrial production indexes, concept codes for seasonally adjusted series start with IP· and for unadjusted series with XIP·, which is our older U.S. standard. However, the capital expenditure series use our newer international standard, whereby adjustment is denoted by the character prior to the frequency character; since they are all annual and by definition unadjusted, that character is always U.
- For each series, the NAICS composition is notated in square brackets in the "description" metadata.
- Moreover, the FRB identifier is notated in square brackets in the "source" metadata field.
