The trigger for this change was a reorganization in 2015 of administrative regions from 27 to 18; in effect, 16 individual NUTS 2 areas have been replaced by seven aggregate areas. This is preliminary to adopting NUTS 2016 (see related article).
In response, we have archived the predecessors (1999 to 2014) by marking their metadata as "discontinued." The replacements start at 1975. Figures are unitary counts (#). We have also standardized the concept codes of the replacements (see related article).
All series reside in the historical catalog (France » Demographics » Components of change) and include, for example:
- VSQDTHA.IFRA_AU = [DISCONTINUED] Deaths, (#) - for Auvergne
- VSQDTHA.IFRA_RA = [DISCONTINUED] Deaths, (#) - for Rhône-Alpes
- VSQDTHUA.IFRA_CEST = Deaths, (#) - for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
The new series are:
- VSQDTHUA.IFRA_XDOM = Deaths, (#) - for Metropolitan France
- VSQDTHUA.IFRA_MY = for NUTS 2 Mayotte
- VSQDTHUA.IFRA_MYT = for NUTS 3 Mayotte
Because catalog locations are subject to change, the upper-right search box on DataBuffet.com provides a "find in catalog" mode that accepts a mnemonic.
Please be aware that:
- "Metropolitan France" is the mainland (see related article).
- There are five areas in France that are conterminous at NUTS levels 2 and 3, which happen to be the five overseas departments: French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, La Réunion, and Mayotte.
