Associate DevOps Engineer

Description

Moody’s Analytics Economics Division is seeking an Associate DevOps Engineer for its West Chester, PA office. The Associate DevOps Engineer position requires a motivated, driven, and passionate individual who enjoys solving challenging problems. He/she will be part of a small, collaborative team that participates across various aspects of DevOps including automation, configuration, build and deploy activities, and support of end to end solutions. Associate DevOps Engineer will have a focus on QA infrastructure systems, CI deployments as well as all system monitoring\trending across on-premise and cloud based systems and applications. Responsibilities include: 

  • Develop automation and processes to enable teams to deploy, manage, configure, scale and monitor their applications in both on-premise data centers and in cloud.
  • Actively participate in high level team activities such as suggesting architecture improvements, recommending process improvements and conducting tool evaluations
  • Coordination with development teams on QA testing and infrastructure. Design and develop reusable scripts/components to be used in workflow.
  • Define test strategy to automate testing used by legacy and newly developed systems to streamline continuous software delivery.
  • System troubleshooting and problem solving across platform and application domains - will be expected to participate in on-call escalations to troubleshoot customer facing issues.
  • Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans, test strategies and test cases. Develop metrics that measure the quality of our software development process and production applications.
  • Collaborate with developers and business analysts in handling and interpreting requirements and defects in workflows.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science (or equivalent).      
  • Solid understanding of Software Development Life Cycle, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery
  • Experience with functional and nonfunctional testing.
  • Experience estimating, prioritizing, planning, and coordinating testing activities including test data management in both/either waterfall and agile methodologies as well as working in either methodology in small teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are a must to liaison with development teams, other corporate teams, and vendors.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux server architectures, software, and .NET applications.
  • Ability to quickly learn and support operationalized tools used for development lifecycle.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills required to diagnose issues across a wide variety of platforms
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services (experience with AWS/Azure is a plus)
  • Experience with version control systems such as Subversion and Git
  • Experience with automation tools (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, PowerShell)

You would be responsible forin-depth research and forecasting for state and metropolitan economies and international economies; producing written analysis for our regional and international publications; and responding to client requests and inquiries. The work requires general spreadsheet analysis, in depth computer programming for data transformation and estimation, collecting and interpreting data for clients, working with the senior staff on larger research and consulting projects, and contributing to our live commentary website.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Economics relevant experience preferred in economic forecasting and consulting.  Excellent academic record, writing skills, and a strong proficiency in the use of computers and statistical/econometric software.  A successful applicant with a recent bachelor’s degree would be placed as an entry level Associate Economist 1. An applicant with two-years of post-graduate experience and/or a Master’s degree would be placed as an Associate Economist 2. The position requires a motivated, responsible person who can work well with others and independently of daily supervision and produce near copy-ready quality reports.  Strong interpersonal skills are a must as Associate Economists will work directly with clients to produce scheduled customized products as well as to share their insights on the areas they will cover.

Qualifications for a Summer Software Engineering Intern include: undergraduate course work in software engineering, computer science, information systems, or related fields, an excellent academic record, good interpersonal skills and strong problem solving skills. Other useful experience which is not required, but would be a strong plus, includes: previous internship in an office environment, knowledge of web technologies, object-oriented programming and relational database experience.

Moody’s Analytics Economics Division, located in West Chester, PA, is a leading independent provider of economic, financial, country, and industry research designed to meet the diverse planning and information needs of businesses, governments, and professional investors worldwide. You would be responsible for credit modeling, including the development, implementation, and validation of probability of default (PD) and loss given default (LGD) models using state-of-the-art statistical and econometric techniques. Emphasis is on retail credit but with some exposure to corporate and other forms of risk modeling in partnership with sister companies within Moody's. You would also be responsible for forecasting and simulation exercises, with emphasis on stress testing under alternative scenarios; contract consulting work with major industry players worldwide, which would involve proposal writing, modeling specification, estimation and validation, final reports and documentation writing; meeting with clients to discuss proposed and current projects; making presentations at conferences; and general client service, including serving as primary point of contact for credit modeling issues. Economists and associate economists may report to you and rely on you for training and mentoring.

Qualifications

Candidates should have Ph.D. in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or closely related field. Two to three years of industry experience in quantitative risk modeling is strongly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of econometrics, stress testing, ability to communicate technical subject matter clearly and concisely to individuals from various backgrounds, and excellent writing, presentation and interpersonal skills are required.
