Job Description

This role will be responsible for participating in all activities related to the selection, creation, design, development, maintenance, and implementation of database supporting applications developed by the Moody’s Analytics Content Solution Economics & Business Analytics team. The role will report up through the Database Engineering team. 

  • Support database functionality and applications within the non-prod (development, QA, staging) and production (live and disaster recovery) environments.
  • Ensure safeguarding of all company and/or client data through appropriate IT security controls and best practices. This ongoing process will be done in conjunction with Product Strategy, Engineering, DevOps, and IT Risk teams.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement, infrastructure developments, process controls, and upgrades of the database systems.
  • Identify, recommend, solutions to increase productivity, performance and efficiency.
  • Design and implement data processing operations.
  • Help support and develop projects with the business from large unstructured data sets.
  • Identify opportunities and execute programmatic solutions to improve performance.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of standards and best practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Strong database engineering skills with emphasis in Microsoft SQL and MongoDB; Database design, development and implementation experience. AWS experience a plus.
  • Develop and maintain database architecture.
  • Performance tuning database objects for optimal performance of our front-end & middle tier applications (T-SQL, NoSQL).
  • Provide support for the deployment of database scripts in Development, QA, Staging, and Production environments.
  • Scope and lead deployment of data engineering solutions.
  • Research, write, and edit documentation and technical requirements.
  • Diagnose, correct, and document issues, risks and problems using quality assurance practices
  • Collaborate closely with Software Development and DevOps teams.

 

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate/first-level degree (e.g. Bachelor’s degree) required;
  • 0 - 2 years of related experience
  • Ability to work with and communicate effectively with a large distributed team.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge and capability for critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Working knowledge of database applications and tools including, but not limited to: Microsoft SQL, NoSQL, and cloud-base database services.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and colleagues

We are located in West Chester, PA, and are a leading independent provider of economic, financial, country, and industry research designed to meet the diverse planning and information needs of businesses, governments, and professional investors worldwide. You would be responsible for developing econometric forecasting models for consumer credit portfolios under a variety of economic scenarios; deploying econometric models in a web-based platform; testing and quality assurance of deployed models; client training; and responding to client requests and inquiries. The work requires programming and data management skills along with econometric knowledge. The successful candidate will collaborate with senior staff on consulting projects and will be involved in the development, deployment and testing of models in a proprietary loss forecasting and stress testing solution.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics or related field; relevant experience preferred in economic forecasting, credit modeling and consulting. Excellent academic record, writing skills, and a strong proficiency in the use of computers and statistical/econometric software. Programming experience is required in two of the following: Stata, R and Python. A successful applicant with a recent bachelor’s degree would be placed as an entry level Associate Economist 1. An applicant with two-years of post-graduate experience and/or a Master’s degree would be placed as an Associate Economist 2. The position requires a motivated, responsible person who can work well with others and independently of daily supervision and produce near copy-ready model documentation. Strong interpersonal skills are a must as Associate Economists will work directly with clients to provide training, explain models and output and address any additional reporting requests.

Responsibilities of the Economist position include:

  • Forecasting and Analysis for the U.S. and global macro economies with a focus on financial markets
  • Preparing written analysis for the company’s publications, white papers, and real-time commentary for our website
  • Managing, constructing and updating forecasts models
  • Presenting to clients and other groups, as well as establishing a close working relationship with clients.
  • Additional responsibilities may include leading or participating in contract consulting projects requiring proposal writing, econometric modeling, and the writing of interim and the final reports
  • Contributing to the development and production of new and existing products.
  • The job also includes occasional travel for client meetings and presentations.

 

Qualifications

  

  • The qualified candidate will have a Ph.D degree or a Master’s degree and three to five years’ experience.
  • An excellent academic record; in-depth research experience; modeling and econometric skills; and excellent writing, presentation and interpersonal skills are required.
