Associate Quantitative Engineer

Description

Moody’s Analytics Economics Division, located in West Chester, PA, is a leading independent provider of economic, financial, country, and industry research designed to meet the diverse planning and information needs of businesses, governments, and professional investors worldwide. The successful candidate would work with a new and expanding group that designs, implements, and operates algorithms to produce unique client-facing data sets and uses quantitative techniques to drive significant internal productivity and quality improvements. You would be responsible for developing, implementing, testing, and operating applications and processes that produce and evaluate data and models. This is a highly collaborative position, requiring frequent interaction with a variety of teams across the line of business. Key details of the successful candidate’s responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing quantitative products and product enhancements, for example:

     1. Systems design, analysis and evaluation 

     2. Data estimation and imputing

     3. High-throughput numerical quality assessment 

     4.  Econometric forecasting

  • Identifying opportunities and executing programmatic solutions to significantly improve productivity
  • Assessing and improving the interfaces by which external and internal clients interact with the group's data and models
  • Utilizing analytical skills for interpreting business functions, understanding functional requirements, and researching and resolving system problems
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of standards and best practices

 

Qualifications

Minimum education and work experience required for this position include a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Industrial engineering, or a relevant quantitative field; 0-2 years of relevant work experience; and work experience or coursework involving programming: C#, Python, R, STATA, Matlab or related programs. Other useful experience, but not required, include large-scale data analysis and computing, Hadoop, quantitative finance and valuation, or econometric forecasting.

Associate User Experience Designer

Description

Moody’s Analytics Economics Division is seeking a Web Designer for its West Chester, PA office. The Web Designer position requires a creative and passionate individual who enjoys solving the challenging problems associated with designing aesthetically pleasing, intuitive, and usable interfaces for complex web applications. He/she will work as part of a collaborative development team, working on solutions for improving product user experience, and designing interfaces and interactions. Dutiesinclude delivering innovative and engaging mock-ups, wireframes and prototypes, synthesizing feedback from all stakeholders to validate design concepts, and working closely with the development team to implement elegant solutions. Web Designers are also expected to stay up-to-date on web user interface (UI)/ user experience (UX) industry trends and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in designing the overall look and feel of visual and interactive user interface products and platforms.
  • Assist in applying custom application controls and iconography.
  • Assist in designing effective visual and interactive design language that helps users to easily solve problems.
  • Assist in simplifying and turning complex information into intuitive graphics, charts, graphs, and other forms of visual representation.
  • Assist in creating rapid prototypes to validate design concepts with stakeholders and customers.
  • Contribute in building a user experience pattern library, to maintain consistency in behaviors across multiple products.
  • Participate in the definition of design or user-centered design process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Computer Science or related field
  • Up to 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong design portfolio demonstrating understanding of typography, layout, color, and imagery
  • Knowledge of usability principles and best practices
  • Strong communication skills
  • Work experience or coursework using:

Potential areas of focus include time-series estimation, client relations, documentation, process management and/or team management. You will gain the knowledge and experience of collecting, working with and understanding data from sources around the world – key for anyone looking to pursue an analytical career.  

Qualifications

The position requires a motivated, responsible individual with a BA or BS degree and course work in economics, finance, statistics, or related fields. Excellent academic record and a strong proficiency in computer use. The appropriate candidate must be able to work collaboratively and independently, be adept at problem solving and developing effective work plans. Familiarity with programming languages is a plus. Knowledge of a foreign language is a plus. Because this position involves extensive team and client contact, strong interpersonal skills are necessary.
