The CPI measures the change in the general price level of goods and services consumed by households. It is reported monthly in the CPI Statistical Bulletin.

  • Individual consumption expenditures are classified by United Nation Statistical Division's Classification of Individual Consumption according to Purpose (COICOP). The dataset includes CPI broken down into two major divisional categories:
  1. Food and non-alcoholic beverages - COICOP Division 01
  2. Non-food - COICOP Divisons 02 to 12

The dataset is reported by the source beginning in August 2019, so for the All Items index, we have extended the data back to 1963 using the predecessors and the IMF data, and offer an SA counterpart with the same start date.

Moody's Analytics supplements

We back-extend the NSA series to 1963 using its predecessors and IMF IFS. We construct a seasonally adjusted counterpart using X-13ARIMA-SEAT.

Data is subject to revisions for both:

  • Revisions to previous periods
  • Periodic updating of base year
