For Hong Kong SAR (China), nominal and real indexes of payroll by industry section.
Payroll, as a proxy for earnings, is defined to inclue (i) basic wages and salaries; (ii) guranteed bonuses and allowances such as shift allowance, attendance and efficiency bonuses, cost-of-living allowance, and food and transportation allowances; (iii) discretionary bonuses and allowances such as profit sharing bonuses; and (iv) overtime payments. However, payments in-kind are excluded.
The indices of payroll per person engaged for a reference quarter are compiled by comparing the monthly average payroll in respect of that quarter with that of the base period. The real index of payroll per person engaged is obtained by deflating the respective nominal index by the composite consumer price index.
The industry classification is based on Hong Kong Standard Industrial Classification Version 2.0 (HSIC 2.0).
All industries are covered except for: agriculture, forestry and fishing; construction; hawkers and retail pitches; taxis, goods vehicles, barges, lighters and stevedoring services; public administration, veterinary services, religious organisations, authors and other independent artists, domestic helpers and miscellaneous recreational and personal services.
All occupations are covered.
