Release Information

These house price indices (HPIs) are the result of work carried out by National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) of the European Union.  These indices describe the price changes of all residential properties purchased by households (including flats, detached houses, terraced houses, etc.), both new and existing, independent of their final use and independently of their previous owners.

House price data comes from various sources and the indicators used differ widely. Differences are found in underlying price data, frequency, coverage of regions, and dwelling types.  These differences in methodology do not allow for easy comparisons.  This dataset is an attempt at producing comparable, timely, and high frequency house price statistics.  Please note these data are still experimental and should be labelled as such.

House price data are first provided by the NSIs.  Data gaps are filled in using estimates created either by NSIs or Eurostat based on alternative and non-harmonzed national sources.  Indices with 2005=100 as the base are constructed.  The euro area and EU 27 aggregates were created using annual GDP weights for the period.

Data are experimental.  Revisions may occur.

The emphasis is on market prices, with non-marketed prices being ruled out from the scope of the House Price Indices (HPIs). Self-build dwellings are therefore excluded. The prices of dwellings include the land component.
