Data is reported using the Balance of Payment Manual (BPM6) methodology. The methodology was updated in 2009 due to globalization, increasing focus on balance sheet issues, and financial innovation.
The methodology was revised in parallel with System of National Accounts 2008 (2008 SNA) and the European System of Accounts 2010 (ESA 2010), this was done to help ensure consistency between the data sets.
