Foreign Trade statistics describes the trade in commodites. Trades can occur between Finland and other EU Member States, which is considered internal trade. Trades can also occur between Finland and third countries, which is considered external trade. These statistics are considered the official source for import, export, and trade balance of Finland.
The statistics are based on a defined set of norms applied in the EU Member States. In the EU, data on foreign trade is gathered using two different systems. Data on trade with countries outside the the EU are obtained from the customs clearance system. Data on trade between Member States is collected using the Intrastat system.
The preliminary data is released 6 weeks after the end of the statistical month. The detatiled statistics are released after approximately 9 weeks.
