The Westpac McDermott Miller Consumer Confidence Index is a quarterly balance of opinion (+/- 100) based on a survey of consumers in New Zealand. It is published late in the last month of each quarter (i.e., March, June, September and December).
An index number over 100 indicates optimists outnumber pessimists, while a value under 100 denotes the reverse. The margin of error in the survey is 2.5% at a 95% confidence interval.
Moody's Analytics republishes only the headline consumer confidence index. The full report includes present and future conditions indices, regional indices (11), and the balance of response to the five component survey questions. Responses by gender and age are summarized but not tabulated.
The index is compiled by Westpac, a financial company incorporated in Australia and founded as the Bank of New South Wales in 1861.
These consumer confidence indices are not subject to revision.
