Item coverage
Comprehensive consumer prices of goods and services for the purpose of consumption were collected for the adjusted consumer basket, which covered 704 goods and services and about 90,000 price quotations from 13,400 retail outlets. The consumer prices of individual commodities include value-added tax and are collected during the initial 20 days of a reference month.
Classification
The CPI is divided into 12 divisions, 44 groups and 101 classes of the COICOP classification (COICOP version from December 1999).
Frequency of weight updates is every year.
Population coverage
From the population aspect the index covers about 90 percent households. It includes the following 5 main groups of population: employees (wage and salary workers), comprised of manual workers outside agriculture and non-manual workers; self-employed; farmers (mainly in co-operatives); pensioners; institutional households.
Geographical coverage
The entire territory of the Slovak Republic, i.e. urban and rural areas, but most of the prices are collected in urban areas.
For HICP (2025), the source writes:
Prior to 2026: we have back-extended the all-items index CPITTUM.ISVK (1993m1 to 2000m12) using the growth rate of the IMF-reported series IMFIFSIPCPIUM.ISVK. Because the IMF uses a base period of the entirety of 2000, rather than December 2000, the value for December 2000 is not perfectly equal to 100.
As of 2026: we back-extended the all-items CPI (1993m1 to 2025m12) using the predecessor.
For the HICP, we back-extended (1996m1 to 2020m12).
For the CPI and HICP, we constructed seasonally adjusted counterparts using the X-13ARIMA-SEATS program.
