Scope of the data
Population group coverage - The estimates cover persons with permanent residence in the Slovak Republic.
Geographical coverage - Data are usually published for the Slovak Republic as a whole, and broken down to the 8 regions and 79 districts.
Topical coverage - Estimates are compiled by sex and single year of age, and age group.
Data availability - Data on age structure of population are calculated for the total population with permanent residence in the Slovak Republic. Estimates broken down by citizens and foreigners are not disseminated.
Source data collection programs
Base estimates - The population estimates reflect the results of the most recent Census of Population and Housing, updated every year.
Population Census - A Census of Population and Housing was conducted as of May 26 2001.
Births and deaths - The base for vital demographic statistical surveys is the system of civil registrations of all live born children of mothers with permanent residence in the Slovak Republic, and civil registrationsof deaths of persons with permanent residence in the Slovak Republic.
Migration - The statistical questionnaires completed in the case of change of permanent residence (in the country or at immigration from, or emigration to foreign country) are used for migration statistics.
The annual population data are final when first released and are not subject to revision.
