The data is compiled from the value of turnover collected from VAT returns obtained from the Revenue Department. The index is calculated using the Laspeyres index and is compiled on a monthly basis. The CPI is used as a deflator. The data are based on the United Nations’ International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC).
We seasonally adjust the general index, using the U.S. Census Bureau's X-13 ARIMA program.
In series TNI4789UM.ITHA ("retail sale via stalls and markets of other goods") there is a scale break during 2015, in which the index number jumps from hundreds to thousands, due to change in method. The source writes: "Since 2015, the Revenue Department has been surveys for collecting more data."
