Release Information

For Thailand, a detailed retail sales index, with 24 items in five major groups: Non-durable goods, durable goods, department stores etc., sales of motor vehicles and fuel, and other retail.

The data is compiled from the value of turnover collected from VAT returns obtained from the Revenue Department.  The index is calculated using the Laspeyres index and is compiled on a monthly basis.  The CPI is used as a deflator.  The data are based on the United Nations’ International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC).

We seasonally adjust the general index, using the U.S. Census Bureau's X-13 ARIMA program.

In series TNI4789UM.ITHA ("retail sale via stalls and markets of other goods") there is a scale break during 2015, in which the index number jumps from hundreds to thousands, due to change in method. The source writes: "Since 2015, the Revenue Department has been surveys for collecting more data."
