Release Information

Presents preliminary statistics for the value of construction work done in Australia. Separate data is shown for building work done and for engineering work done for both the private and public sectors. The building work done data is further dissected into new residential, alterations and additions to residential and non-residential work. The data is a major source used to compile the national accounts estimates for private gross fixed capital formation on dwellings, and other buildings and structures

The estimates of building work done and engineering work done are from the quarterly Building Activity Survey and the quarterly Engineering Construction Survey respectively. Estimates of work done are based upon a response from each survey of approximately 80% of the value of work done during the current quarter.

The scope of the Building Activity Survey is building activity which includes construction of new buildings and alterations and additions to existing buildings.

Classifications of data are catagorised from ownership (private\public), type of building and type of work put into the buildings from newly built to alterations.

Data are subject to adjustments. Seasonally adjusted statistics reflect both irregular and trend movements, an upward or downward movement in a seasonally adjusted series does not necessarily indicate a change of trend.
