An Enterprise Survey is a firm-level survey of a representative sample of an economy’s private sector. The surveys cover a broad range of business environment topics including access to finance, corruption, infrastructure, crime, competition, and performance measures.
Company level surveys have been conducted since the early 1990's by many different units of the World Bank. Recently, the Enterprise Analysis Unit is responsible for the centralized data collection efforts. Private contractors conduct the Enterprise Survays on behalf of the World Bank. The reason why private contractors are used is to survey questions that ask about business-government relations and bribery related themes. The survey questions are asked to business owners and top managers, mainly in the manufacturing and service sectors.
