The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) reports monthly statistics on retail sales and volume indices by type of shop.
Retail sales: sales of goods at current consumer prices, i.e. at a price enlarged with value added tax and consumption tax. (The observation does not concern the sales of markets, occasional street vendors and the value of repair services.)
Volume index of retail trade turnover: an index calculated from value indices of retail sales, using deflator price indices based on representatives of consumer prices.
The registered main activity of the shops is in accordance with the classification of the Hungarian Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities.
The seasonal and working-day adjustment was carried out with TRAMO-SEATS method using DEMETRA software. Sales statistics of retail trade are based on a representative data collection on retailing activities. Since January 1998, retail trade statistics cover all retail trade shops with operating licence, included in the Hungarian Retail Outlet Register as well as all pharmacies. Estimations have been calculated in accordance with the activity groups specified in the Council Regulation No. 1165/98 of the European Union.
Activities are classified according to Statistical classification of economic activities in the European Community (NACE Rev.2):
For "all items" retail turnover, we back-extend the series by two years, and construct a seasonally adjusted counterpart.
