Release Information

Construction

According to Statistical Classification of Economic Activities NACE Rev. 2 activity ‘’Construction’’ includes general and specialised construction of buildings and civil engineering structures. It includes new construction, repair, reconstruction and renovation, assembly and erection of prefabricated constructions on the site and construction of temporary kind of buildings.

Construction output

This means the volume of construction work executed by construction or other enterprises including capital repair, site preparation, earth moving, construction management as well as current repairs done on the contractual basis.

Volume index of construction production

The volume index of construction production characterises the changes of construction production volume in the reference period in comparison with the base period.

Non-adjusted data

Data which are calculated taking into account volume of construction works actually done in each quarter.

Seasonally adjusted data

Data which in time series analysis allow evaluating the changes of economic processes more objectively eliminating the influence of seasonality and varying number of working days on the volume of construction works done. With the help of this method, e.g., influence of Easter, Christmas and other holidays, as well as volume fluctuations depending on season are averted. It should be taken into account that according to the seasonal and working day adjustment methods after adding data of new period to the series the information of previous periods is also recalculated. Therefore each quarter in the time series of adjusted information the data of previous periods may change.

Working day adjusted data

Data in which the influence of varying number of working days in data to be compared is averted.

Source of data

Quarterly survey “Survey of construction."

Coverage

In 2009 results of the construction activity are surveyed in all central and local government enterprises and commercial companies where 50 or more persons are employed in construction or where turnover in the previous year had been over 2.1 mln LVL. Other commercial companies engaged in construction are surveyed by sampling using simple random sampling.

Sample size

In 2009 the number of enterprises to be surveyed in the quarter was 878.

Methods of calculation

Volume of construction work is recalculated at constant prices with the help of construction cost indices.

The annual data are obtained summing the data of all four quarters.

Classification

-Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community, Rev. 2 (NACE Rev. 2);

-Classification of Constructions CC.
