Release Information

Quarterly Public Sector Debt (QPSD) is a joint venture by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. This data series provides detailed public sector debt for 83 economies. Quarterly from as early as 1995Q1.

The QPSD database provides specific public debt components that comparable across countries ("economies"). The following sectors are provided on an as-available basis. Not all concept-geo pairs exist.

  • Total public sector
  • General government
  • Central government
  • Budgetary central government
  • Nonfinancial public corporations
  • Financial public corporations

Figures are expressed in U.S. dollars (USD), national currency units (where a unit-descriptor of "NCU" stands in for respective ISO symbols), or percent of GDP.

  • Although the source's homepage for the dataset claims 101 economies, the data files contain only 83 countries.
  • Some series are not additive across components. According to the source, this is due to differences in reporting.
