Release Information

Balance of Payments data are disseminated in billions of Swedish Kronor (SEK) and cover the entire Swedish economy and all transactions.

Data published include:

  1. The current account broken down by main components; trade, income and current transfers. The trade component publishes separately identifiable data on exports and imports of goods and services. The data disseminated on income and current transfers include the prescribed components of net current transfers and net income receipts.
  2. The capital account, including capital transfers.
  3. The financial account broken down by reserves, direct and portfolio investment, loans, etc. and others.

External Debt data are disseminated in millions of Swedish Kronor (SEK) for the following:

Total liabilities owed to non-residents (in accordance with the residence criteria of the BPM6) broken down by:

  • general government, monetary authorities, monetary financial institutions, and other sectors;
  • maturity (short term/long term); and
  • investment type

For Balance of Payments data, regular revisions are made monthly for the five preceding months, together with annual revisions for latest and earlier years when data for a full year is disseminated.

To the extent other openly available statistics that constitute an input to the balance of Payments are revised, a corresponding revision is always made within the Balance of Payments in order to keep consistency.

Occasionally when substantial revisions occur in data collected by Sveriges Riksbank, revisions are made in the BoP.

Larger revisions of the data are specifically commented upon.

Gross external debt data are preliminary when first released.

Data is updated eight weeks after the end of the reference month.

The Riksbank has long been in the practice of compiling "Balance of Payments ", i.e. statistical data on cross border transactions, portfolio investment, Swedish assets and liabilities with the rest of the world. Since 1 September 2007 the data are assembled by SCB (Statistic Sweden), on behalf of the Riksbank.
