The conceptual and methodological criteria under which the compilation of statistics on the balance of payments is done according to the Colombia Manual balance of payments and international investment position IMF International Monetary Fund, IMF, and Sixth Edition (BPM6).

The compilation of balance of payments (BOP) in Colombia is made by the Banco de la República (BR) based on a wide range of sources of information which is accessed through regulations issued directly by the Bank or by establishing agreements agency. The structure of information sources is composed of:

  • administrative records
  • reports obtained through the system ITRS (SINTI), which in the case of Colombia, not only covers made through the local financial system but also made through deposit accounts in foreign banks registered with the BR
  • accounting reports both financial companies and non-financial
  • access to specialized international data bases
  • Estimates that follow the parameters BPM6 established methodology, in cases where no direct information is counted.

Building statistics BP takes into account its consistency with other macroeconomic statistics as Rest of World Account System of National Accounts SNA statistics of foreign trade in goods and monetary and financial statistics.
