The index of producer prices of industrial products measures price changes of merchandise sold in the following sectors: mining and quarrying, manufacturing and energy and water supply. VAT is excluded. Primary sources of the data are Federal Statistical Office (FSO) and the Land Statistical Offices. We source the data from the FSO and Deutsche Bundesbank, which seasonally and calendar day adjusts the series.

Price levels in various towns, Federal Länder or states are used for example to adjust remuneration of civil servants and soldiers abroad.

The index base year is advanced every five years.
