Vital Statistics are quantitative data concerning a population, such as the number of births, marriages, and deaths. This dataset provides statistics on:
Data are available for the Hokkaido Region and 47 prefectures, however, information for Total Population is available just for the country as a whole.
The data are collected from Japan Statistics Bureau and provided by the Statistics and Information Department, Minister's Secretariat, and Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
Data are gathered through various surveys and the subjects of these surveys are Japanese citizens who report the total events of live births, deaths, marriages and divorces, notified in accordance with ‘Family Registration Law’ and ‘Provisions Regarding Notification of Stillbirths’. Vital Statistics Survey is based on Family Registry and the Municipal heads fill in vital statistics survey forms based on notifications of live births, deaths, marriages and divorces. The survey period is 1st January to 31st December and the data are released annually around September following the survey year.
Data are not subject to revision.
Okinawa Prefecture is not include figures from 1947 to 1972.
