For Japan, estimated population by five-year age bracket. Monthly from 1996.
Japan's population is surveyed in detail through the Population Census every five years. Population Estimates are published each month in an attempt to get a grasp of the population in the intercensal period.
Population as of the first day of each month is estimated by using the Census population as the base (the Base Population) and obtaining population changes during the intercensal period from other data sources.
Final estimates for the latest month's population will be computed five months later using updated sources.
Every five years, the source revises a portion of the data within the files which re-calculate based on the complete counts of the five-year Population Census.
