Release Information
For Norway, national-level monthly detailed producer price index by industry and industry group, divided between production for domestic and total (plus export) purposes. Measures the first-hand sales of products to the Norwegian market. Per NACE Rev. 2 from January 2000.
Measurements are as of day 15 of each month.
The survey includes all commodities produced by companies within extraction and related services (NACE 06 and 09), mining (05, 07 and 08), manufacturing (10 to 33) energy supply (35) and water supply (36 to 39).
These industries are not covered: mining of uranium and thorium ores (07.21), processing of nuclear fuel (24.46), manufacture of weapons and ammunition (25.4), building of ships and boats (30.1), manufacturing of aeroplanes and spacecraft (30.3) and manufacture of military fighting machinery (30.4).
The index is produced using a chained Laspeyres formula. The base period is 2000.
The PPI is final when it is first published. The closely related commodity price index for the industrial sector (VPPI) may be revised (but is not banked in Data Buffet).
The Producer Price Index has been compiled since 1977, and published series exist down to a two-digit ISIC level from 1977 to December 2000. The revision in January 2001 implies a break in the series. Series grouped according to NACE Rev.2 exist as of January 2000 on a two-digit level, and some on a three-digit level. (The latter are what Data Buffet banks.)
The price index for "mining support service activities" was first published per January 2012 with index numbers back to December 2011. The index for "extraction of oil and natural gas" was also added in January 2012, but with no history. Together, these comprise the "by market" index for "extraction and related services."
From January 2017, the new industry "water supply" is included in the PPI.
Monthly. Released on day 10 of each month at 10:00 a.m. Oslo time, with a one-month lag.
