Release Information

The statistics constitute a short-term economic indicator for the industry for construction of new buildings. They comprise information on building permits for residential construction and non-residential construction.

 The statistics include all new buildings with building permission or building permit including the apartment contribution when converting apartment buildings.  The base data comes from the municipalities of Sweden and also provide information about newly built and rennovated houses, by using data from the developers.

Definitions

  • Residential building - a house where gross area of at least 50 percent is residential
  • Apartment dwelling - refers exclusively or not insignificant part is intended to be permanantly used as a residence
  • Gross area - the area of floor(s) defined by surrounding walls outsides
  • Building permits - regulated in the Planning and Building Act.  It refers to the number of permits granted.
  • Apartment blocks - the basic term of residential buildings with multiple dwelling units.  Usually 3 or more. 
    • Includes two family houses and non-residential buildings with atleast 1 dwelling.
  • Vacation homes - are not intended for permanant residence
  • Completion - the house where thw apartments are ready to be used.
  • Office - the premesis where the gross area for office purposes
  • Premises - spaces in a building created for something other than housing and communication.
  • Apartment contributions - building measures that change the number of apartments in the houses or distribution of apartment types.
    • This may include additions, extensions, or interior changes
  • New construction - Brand new, from scratch
  • Single-family - the generic term of one-family houses 

Beause of lags from the municipalities, the preliminary figures are underestimated and then revised quarterly to account for the correction in the reported areas.
