For the U.K., annual population, mid-year, by five-year age bands, in subnational areas. Reported by the U.K. Office for National Statistics (ONS) via the NOMIS data portal.
Estimated resident population of an area includes all people who usually live there, whatever their nationality. Members of UK and non-UK armed forces stationed in the UK are included and UK forces stationed outside the UK are excluded. Students are taken to be resident at their term-time address. Includes long-term international migrants, but not short-term international migrants.
The list of reported areas is subject to change.
Geo coverage includes both ONS and NUTS classifications. The list is subject to change in response to changes in administrative areas.
Mid-2007 population estimates are available at national level by single year of age and sex and subnationally (local authority/health area) by five year age group and sex. These include additional selected age groups and broad components of population change. For England and Wales at a subnational level, they reflect the local authority administrative boundaries that were set in 2005 (still in place on 1 April 2007). For Scotland they reflect the council area boundaries that were in place on 29 April 2001.
The methodology used to update the population estimates account for flows of long-term international migrants (defined as somebody who changes his or her country of usual residence for a period of at least one year), but not for flows of short-term international migrants.
