Release Information

Data on exports and imports are collected by the Customs Department at 158 customs entry points throughout Vietnam. The data collected from declaration forms are subject to verification checks, first at the Regional Customs offices and then at the Central Office in Hanoi.

Merchandise trade statistics do not cover goods in transit, goods consigned to and from territorial enclaves, goods for exhibition and fairs, unissued securities, banknotes and coins not in circulation, and monetary and gold imported for national reserves purpose and national monetary balance.

Imports are valued c.i.f. at the time of customs clearance and goods leaving border customs territory. Exports are valued f.o.b. at the time of customs clearance and goods leaving the customs territory. Data are compiled in accordance with the recommendations of the Statistical Commission of the United Nations and a guide to data source coverage of the GSO. The relaxed special trade system of recording, under the relaxed definition, is adopted.

Monthly data cover total value of import- export and main import- export items/groups.

The source does not provide the methodology.

From 2015, the value of imports includes the value of fuels which Vietnam airlines bought at forein aiports.

No seasonal adjustment is made. Data are disseminated both on a monthly and on an annual basis.
