Release Information
The House Price Index is a quarterly indicator that measures changes in the dwellings transactions prices that households acquire on the market. This includes newly built and alredy existing households.
HPI is based on a quarterly survey, "House price indices". The surveys are created using a sample of businesses or companies with main economic activity in real estate (e.g. real estate agencies). The sampling is performed annually. HPIs weights are mainly calculated by The Property Register of the Registry Agency.
The HPI has two sub-indices:
- HPI of new dwellings
- HPI of existing dwellings
The three units used are index, quarterly rate (percentage change compared to previous quarter), and annual rate (percentage change compared to previous year).To be included in HPI the payment can be both cash or mortgage and the final use of the house does not matter (e.g. rented out houses would be included).
The data is first released in a preliminary stage and is usually confirmed or revised in the following quarter. The data may be revised for mistakes, new or improved information, and methodological improvements.
