For Germany, the production index measures the monthly performance of industry. Due to its periodicity, its rapid availability and detailed breakdown by branches of economic activity, it is a central and up-to-date indicator of the development of business activity. This dataset includes data on the following sectors: mining and quarrying, manufacturing, energy and construction.

The output index for the production sector is calculated monthly by the Federal Statistical Office and includes the sectors mining and quarrying, manufacturing, energy and construction.
The Federal Statistical Office's monthly report on the construction sector provides several indicators for a short-term assessment of this sector's cyclical situation. It includes the number of employees, the actual man-hours worked and remuneration. The survey is conducted for construction sector enterprises with 20 or more employees.
Seasonally and working-day-adjusted or just working-day-adjusted time series – depending on the indicator – are provided in addition to the unadjusted figures. The adjusted data are estimated using version 0.2.8 of the Census X-12-ARIMA program.
