Data are disseminated in millions of Euro on total gross outstanding central government debt. The data cover the debt of the central government only.
Data are disseminated for the following:
(1) Total gross outstanding debt of central government;
(2) Total outstanding debt of central government broken down into Euro and non-Euro area currency.
(3) Outstanding volume of Greek Government bonds and T-Bills (which represents approximately 75-80% of the total outstanding central government debt) broken down by residual maturity:
a) short-term (up to 1 year),b) medium-term (from 1 to 5 years), and, c) long-term (above 5 years).
The data are presented at nominal value.
Data, in millions of Euro, cover the Central Government Budget (Ministries and Regional Services). The data include transfers to finance expenditures of the local authorities, social security funds, and other public entities. Data comprise revenue, expenditure (including interest payments), the net balance (deficit/surplus) and the financing of the balance broken down by debt instrument (T-bills, bonds and loans).The fiscal year coincides with the calendar year. However, for certain transactions the fiscal year exceeds the calendar year by four months.
Balance of Payments
The monthly balance of payments data is in line with the 6th edition of the Balance of Payments Manual, which is published under auspices of the International Monetary Fund (BPM6 - Balance of Payments Manual 6th Edition). See source.
Please refer to the summary methodologies located on the International Monetary Fund's website.
The data are provisional when first released and are revised in light of new information. In particular, the data of the last quarter of each year are usually finalized in the middle of the following year and are published in the Annual Budget Report and the State Balance Sheet (for both the data on central government debt and the data on State guarantees). Both reports are released in November and are available - in hard copy format and on CD (in Greek). The full text of the Annual Budget Report (in Greek), as well as a summary (in English) are available on the website of the General Accounting Office (http://mof-glk.gr).
