Release Information

For Indonesia, the Bank Indonesia Business Survey (BIBS) is a sample survey that covers all geographic areas and economic sectors. It is conducted quarterly. It seeks information on current activities (realization) and expectations for the next quarter. Respondents are specifically selected according to their operating capacity, economic sector and region.

Indicators:

  • Capacity utilization
  • Liquidity conditions
  • Profitability conditions
  • Labor utilization
  • Selling price
  • Inflation
  • Investment

All indicators exist in pairs. For example, the business activity all-items total has:

  • CIBSCBATUQ.IIDN = Realized
    CIBSEBATUQ.IIDN = Expectation

Data Buffet's extract is partial.

  • Classification:
    • 17 sections ("agriculture, forestry and fishing" through "other service activities")
    • 29 divisions within five sections
  • Measurement: Net balance
  • Adjustment: Not seasonally adjusted (NSA)
  • Native frequency: Quarterly
  • Start date: As early as 2000Q1

The Business Survey has been conducted quarterly since 1993Q3.

In 2023Q2, it was extended to 3,369 enterprises throughout the Indonesian archipelago, selected using purposive sampling.

The sampling error is 2% at a 5% level of significance.

The data are calculated using the net balance method: the difference between the percentage of the respondents whose responses increased and the percentage whose responses decreased. Unchanged responses are ignored. (Elsewhere, this is known as "percent balance of opinion.")

For three indicators (business activity, selling price and labor utilization) the net weighted balance is used, weighted by the contribution of each economic sector to GDP.

Timeliness

That Business Survey is published in January, April, July and October, typically around Day 20 to 27.

The Realized data has a lag of six weeks after the end of the quarter, e.g., Q1 in April. The Expectation data has a lead of one quarterly period. For example, the April release date includes Q1 Realized data and Q2 Expectation data.

No. The data are final when first disseminated.
