Survey population: Industry and crafts establishments engaging employees and belonging to the manufacturing and mining industries as defined in SIC 1993, excluding the diamond industry in Israel and Jewish localities in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Area.

Nature of weights: The weights used in the index are the gross value added at factor cost by branches, obtained from an annual survey of Industry and Crafts. Weights are updated simultaneously with the update of the sample, usually every five years.

Sample sizes: Monthly surveys have a sample of about 2,200 manufacturing establishments (excluding the diamond industry) with one or more employees, out of the universe of 12,300 manufacturing establishments in the economy. These are supplemented by data from administrative sources, such as National Insurance Institution and VAT authorities for about 30 establishments with fewer than 10 employed persons. The same sources are used for approximately 250 of the establishments in the survey sample, which employ five to 99 employees. (The 2,200 establishments in the sample survey can be compared with the 12,300 manufacturing establishments in the economy, excluding the diamond industry.)

Seasonally-adjusted indices: Data are seasonally adjusted and adjusted for trading days and festivals. These adjusted series are used to obtain trend data.

Data usually become final three months after first release.
