The crude birth rate is based on the total births in a year and the average population for the year.
The birth rate is the number of live births per thousand inhabitants in a given year. The birth rate is defined as the total number of births in a given year (N) divided by the population of the half year (P), per the equation: (N/P)*1000
The crude mortality rate is the number of deaths per thousand inhabitants in a given year. The population is the average population living in a territory (country, state, city, town, etc.) or foreign nationals, estimated at mid-year.
