The National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), presents the figures of the Balance of Payments of Panama, for the first half of 2015. The balance of payments (BP) is a statistical tool - accounting systematically summarizes economic transactions between the country and the world, applying concepts, definitions and internationally recommended guidelines in the Balance of Payments Manual, which indicates the proper recording of transactions in terms of flow, between residents and non-residents of the economy.

This edition is being published for the first time, the compilation of external statistics of the Republic of Panama under recommended in the sixth Balance of Payments Manual prepared by the International Monetary Fund rules to make data more comparable internationally . Also, with the support of technical assistance received from CAPTAC-DR, improvements were implemented in the measurement methodology related to a) trade in goods transactions entering the Panamanian territory for the supply of ships in the Panama Canal Authority ( ACP), b) sale operations of goods that do not cross the border, c) insurance services, d) financial services indirectly measured (FISIM), e) the information on passages that reports the national airline f) the appropriate Registry of direct investment abroad and investment in the opposite direction.

The BP as in its fifth version, the sixth is divided into two broad categories: the current account which reports the operations of foreign trade in goods and services, primary income (income) and secondary income (current transfers) and Account Capital and Financial registering the change of ownership of assets and liabilities of our economy to the rest of the world. It is important to note that the BP transaction presents together the private and public sectors, in order to show the external sector of the economy in aggregate.
