Release Information

For Austria, the count of buildings and dwellings specified in permits for residential and non-residential construction. Quarterly.

The creation of buildings and homes affects the planning and preparation phase on the economy and provides information on the economic development of a country. Eurostat has calculated short-term statistics for data on building permits and approved gross floor areas. The micro-census questionnaire surveys households weekly about their residence situation and living expenses.

The data used for construction projects, buildings, and flats are registered data and come from the GWR (Building and Housing Register). Questionnaires are sent to the reporting units at the end of the reference month asking for reply by day 15 of the following month. Missing responses are requested by telephone contact followed up by two postal reminders. At the time of dissemination of first provisional results at t+55 (88% coverage); revised results are published at t+85 (90-95% coverage); final results are available in October of the following year (99.5% coverage).

Presently routine revisions are done at the end of a reporting year. These revisions range from the 3rd quarter of the recent reporting year back to the base year 2005. Moreover there might be reasons for non-scheduled revisions: If necessary together with a recent released quarter the previous one might be revised.
