The source writes:

The index of wholesale prices is one of the most important indicators of price development. The motivation for the index is to indicate price trends for goods that are sold by wholesale enterprises.

It is used by public authorities and domestic and foreign companies in addition to serving as a deflator for various indicators.

The wholesale price index uses a basket of goods that consists of 384 items. The prices of the goods are surveyed at approximately 220 wholesale enterprises. This provides around 1400 wholesale selling prices each month.

Since 2000, the index base has been advanced every five years.
