Release Information

Statistics Lithuania publishes annual population data for the 10 NUTS3 and 60 LAU1 areas, as well as the Republic of Lithuania. The data are broken down by 5 year age cohorts and gender.  

The data is gathered to supply a continuous supply about the population composition and permanent residents.  Permenent residents is a derivative of a few different ratios includeing fertility, mortality, and migration.  The permanent population is based off the las general population and housing census.

Concepts

  • Age - number of person years at the end of the calendar year.
  • The person - a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania or foriegner.
  • Rural population - rural residential areas
  • City population - living in a city that has the following characteristics:
    • Densly built
    • With more than 3,000 population
      • Cities can request approval if population is less than 3,000.
    • More than two-thirds employed in industry, business and production and social infastructure
  • Permanent residents - all people with a permenant residence during the reporting period.
  • Permanent residence - a place where someone normally spends the daily period for rest, regardless of any other temporary absence.  Permanent residents are limited to:
    • your place of residence has been continuously lived at for atleast 12 months
    • during the last 12 moonths before the reference date, do you plan to stay at your current residence for at least 1 year.
  • Foreigner - someone who is not a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania, regardless of whether they have a foreign nationality.
