Release Information

The data presented for Romania in the Monthly Statistical Bulletin, concerning the main economic and social indicators, are provisional and can be subject to further rectifications. They are usually obtained by statistical sample surveys and measure the short-term economic and social evolution.

Data are yearly finalized based on the business structural survey as well as on some yearly surveys specific for social and economic indicators.

The sampling base, which ensures the information necessary to build and yearly review the enterprise samples, is represented by the statistical business register managed by the NIS, which is correlated to the Fiscal Register and is updated based on the balance sheets sent to the Ministry of Public Finances.

For data presentation

The Classification of Activities in the National Economy CANE Rev. 1, carried out by the National Institute of Statistics is used; it is compatible with the classifications used in the European (NACE Rev. 1.1) and international  statistics (CITI Rev. 3.1).

CANE Rev.1 is used at national level, beginning with 01.01.2003 based on the President of NIS Order no. 601/2002, on the Classification of the Activities in the National Economy – CANE updating, approved by Government Decision no. 656/1997. The indicators are being calculated according to the principle of homogeneity/prevalence, by section, broad industrial group, division, group and class according to CANE Rev. 1. structure. The continuity of data series has been ensured.

The ownership types which are used to structure the data are divided into 8 types specific to current period, namely: state integral ownership (state integral social capital), state majority ownership (over 50% state social capital), private majority ownership (over 50% private social capital), private integral ownership (Romanian or Romanian and foreign private integral social capital), co-operative ownership, community ownership, foreign integral ownership, national and local interest public ownership.

During the year, the ownership types are carried out according to the units' situation at the moment of the survey.

  • The value data are expressed in current prices of each period.
  • The volume indices are determined under comparable methodological conditions and in constant prices.
  • For the foreign trade activity, the value indices are calculated based on the data expressed in EURO.
  • The Monthly Statistical Bulletin also presents several indicators coming from administrative sources, specified within the publication. The provider of data and information institutions are directly responsible for their content and quality:

  • Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Rural Development Number of registered unemployed and unemployment rate.
  • National Agency for Employment State budget, local budgets and state social insurance budget.

The calculation methodologies for the statistical indicators are subject to a continuous process of revision and improvement, in order to accurately reflect the changes taking place in the economy, to adapt them to the new informational requirements and to align them to the statistical system of the European Union.

Consequently, for several indicators, there have been updated: the coverage; the surveying samples and the aggregation weights; the methods of recalculation of the previously issued data in order to assure the comparability etc.
